Tattoo Aftercare Guide: Healing Tips from Our Tampa Studio

Taking care of your tattoo is just as important as getting it done. At our tattoo shop in Tampa, we make sure every client leaves with the right tools and guidance. Whether it’s your first or your fifth piece, follow this simple tattoo aftercare guide to keep your ink vibrant and safe.

First 48 Hours

You’ll leave the studio with regular plastic wrap protecting your tattoo. When you get home:

  • Gently wash your tattoo with cold water and unscented antibacterial soap or Balm Soap.

  • Pat dry with a clean, soft towel.

  • Do not apply any creams, ointments, or products in the first two days.

  • Wash your tattoo twice a day.

Day 3 and Beyond: Time to Balm

On the third day, start applying Balm or Aquaphor:

  • Wash your hands first.
  • Use a very thin layer—too much blocks pores and can cause infection.
  • Apply it 2 to 3 times a day, for at least 3 to 4 weeks.

Once your tattoo is fully healed (usually after 4 weeks), switch to a daily moisturizing routine. We recommend Lubriderm.

Things to Avoid While Healing

To avoid complications or ink loss, steer clear of:

  • Pools, hot tubs, or beach water for at least a month.
  • Direct sun exposure.
  • Gym or heavy workouts in the first days (especially for big pieces).
  • Fried or spicy foods.
  • Alcohol and smoking for the first week.

Saniderm Healing Method

For clients returning to the studio 8–24 hours later, we offer the Saniderm method:

  • Leave it on for 6 days—you don’t need to apply anything else.
  • Avoid the same “things to avoid” list above.
  • If air bubbles appear, remove them with a disinfected pin.
  • If fluids keep weeping, contact us immediately.

To remove Saniderm:

  • Peel it back gently in the shower, following the direction of your hair growth.
  • Let the warm water relax your skin and reduce discomfort.
